MEET THE ARTISANS
Our kantha quilts and accessories are sustainably and ethically handmade by the artisans working with Basha Boutique in Bangladesh. Basha creates a distinctive range of home textiles and accessories and has a story of women solidarity and empowerment. Not only do they make the most beautiful and soft kantha quilts, but as a social enterprise, they provide full-time employment to women at risk and survivors of human trafficking.
Bangladesh is a source, transit and destination country for sex trafficking, involving thousands of women. In most cases, women don't have a choice and are forced into sex work. Through dignified work, Basha offers these women a real opportunity to escape trafficking, helping them to gain job skills and to become leaders and entrepreneurs in a healthy, healing environment.
Basha creates a real change in the life of its artisans providing them with the opportunity of a fresh start and the chance to rebuild their lives, genuinely empowering them and giving hope of a bright future to their children.
In addition to a fair job, Basha actively helps each artisan rebuild her life and her family. They offer a salary above the local standard and employee benefits, such as ongoing professional and personal training, part-payment of medical costs, full-time daycare for all employees children which are uncommon in the local garment industry.
At Anokha Collection, we are proud to partner with the artisans of Basha.
